BlogHer Business 2007

Last week I was in NYC participating in the first BlogHer Business Conference. Since its inaugural conference in the summer of 2005, BlogHer has been a focal point for women's voices in the blogosphere, both in its conferences and on the BlogHer website, an effort which I am proud to be part of.

As a business woman and a woman with a blog that has evolved into a business, what better place to meet peers and share ideas than at a women's conference devoted to the more professional aspects of blogging. Diva Marketing's Toby Bloomberg and I have been to all the conferences so far, and we shared a moment or two of awe at how far things have come, since July 05.

Vanessa Fox, mistress of Google's Webmaster Central joined forces with me for "Building Your Blog Audience" (link to parts of the presentation). Vanessa has posted a recap of our presentation and her discussion of Search Engine Optimization on the Google Webmaster Central Blog. I pretty much did a mini-repeat of my talk at BlogHer 06, much of which is accessible on the BlogHer archives on How to Build Blog Traffic series. Chris Carfi also did a recap of our session. It was great to hang out with Vanessa, even for a short while, and learn more about Google's views on SEO.

Susan Getgood of the Marketing Roadmaps blog, Michelle Madhok of SheFinds.com, and I teamed up to facilitate a lively discussion about Blogger Relations. On the one hand you have bloggers who don't like receiving form letter pitches for inappropriate products. On the other hand you have PR managers who are overwhelmed with the number of bloggers they should be reaching out to. It's not often that you get to bounce ideas off of smart women who are interested in the same stuff you are. I can bore my friends to tears with the business details of blogging, so it's exhilarating to do a mind meld with such competent, engaging women as Susan and Michelle, and then to take those ideas and engage a broader audience at BlogHer.

Of course, the BlogHer conferences wouldn't happen without the supreme efforts of Lisa Stone, Elisa Camahort, and Jory Des Jardins. Thank you ladies!

Elise - hangin' out with you was a highlight at BlogHer Biz for me. We talk about building relationships online but taking them offline is even more fun!
