Getting Listed on Favorite Food Blogs

Favorite Cooking and Food Blogs from Around the World is a personal list of favorite food blogs. It is not meant to be an all encompassing list. If you would like to have your blog added to a comprehensive list, Kiplog does a great job of maintaining a list of food blogs and takes requests for submissions. You can also enroll at Food Blog S'cool which is a great way to get exposure and meet other food bloggers.

Although I love discovering new food blogs, please note that I do not do link exchanges. If you have a food blog and it is not on our Favorites list, please drop an email to recipes AT elise {dot] com with a quick note to the effect of "By the way Elise, you might find my blog of interest. The URL is ...." If I start reading your blog on a regular basis, and it meets the following criteria, I may add it to the list.

Here are some of the criteria we consider when adding a blog to the favorites list:

  • Does the blog actively link to other food bloggers? We like to promote blogs that support other food bloggers.
  • Actively posting for a while. A blog should have been around for at least a year, and be updated regularly, at least several times per month.
  • Attractive original photographs or illustrations. Okay, so not everyone has a DSLR camera, and food photography is notoriously difficult. But good photos can be taken with simple cameras, especially if you take photos in indirect natural light (no flash).
  • Good original writing. Concise is best, but long is okay too, as long as the writing is engaging, and for the most part grammatically correct. Punctuation helps too.
  • Recipes. Not all the blogs on the list offer recipes, but we are more inclined to add blogs to the list that do.
  • A link to Simply Recipes. If you are asking to be listed on Simply Recipes, you might consider linking to us first, before you ask. It's not absolutely required, but it helps.

On a final note, even if your site meets all of these criteria, we may not get to it for a while. At the time of this writing there are over 20,000 food blogs and only a few hundred of them can we possibly keep up with on our list. ~Elise
