New Zealand Bound

Tomorrow I pack my bags and hop on a 12 hour flight to the land of Frodo, kiwi-fruit, volcanos, whale riders, and a night sky with an entirely different set of stars. I'll be in Auckland on a business trip, and during the off hours I will have the great pleasure to meet and lunch with a couple fabulous food bloggers - Barbara of WinosAndFoodies.com and Celine of An Angel at My Table. If you get a chance, please check out their blogs and say hello.

So, for the first time in two years, I will not be cooking for a week. Which means, no new recipes to post. Instead, I'll be pulling up some recipes from the archive and highlighting several of my favorite food blogs. We'll be back to the regular programming on this site some time next week.

By the way, if you subscribe to Simply Recipes updates, either through Personalized Google, MyYahoo, Bloglines, or some other feed reader, and you only want to see recipes and not announcements like this one, Shopping Alerts, Food Blog spotlights, book reviews or any number of the things I write about on this site that aren't recipes, you can use Simply Recipes' "Recipe-Only" feed URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/SimplyRecipesRecipesOnly. Other subscription and feed options can be found here.

Definitely have some kumara fries with sweet chili and sour cream. I've searched all over the New York area, and can't find kumara anywhere. (Unfortunately, our sweet potatos, while delicious, just aren't the same).

Would also love some good pavlova recipes. Have fun!

I'm so jealous! I spent last year living in Christchurch on the South Island and it's what gave me the inspiration to start up my own food blog. While you're there be sure andyou’re your hands on Cuisine food magazine - it's got great writing, always useable recipes alongside the inspirational/aspirational ones and gives a great perspective on the food industry in NZ. I missed it so much when I moved back to Ireland that I had to get myself a subscription for Christmas! While you're in Auckland, it's well worth taking a trip to Newmarket and checking out Mark McDonough Zarbo café and the nearby Epicurean Workshop. And be sure and pick up one of Julie Le Clerc's cookbooks - the simple café food ones are particularly good. Have a great trip, Elise.
